The whole Coyhaique area is renowned for its fishing, but Dos Lagos Lodge occupies a unique niche: few properties in the world have access to such a variety of waters as Dos Lagos. Five interconnected lakes (Paloma, Azul, Desierto, Elizalde, Caro), four larger rivers (among them Paloma and Desague), four smaller rivers (Río 7, Balboa and Mogote) plus innumerable streams give us a staggering choice of fisheries and provide viable alternatives in all weather and wind conditions. They can all be reached in less than 60 minutes by jet-boats. Heli-fishing is also available upon request (not included in our rates - please contact us a month in advance to organize this).
A priceless bonus is the fact that Dos Lagos has banks on most of these waters which are used almost exclusively by our own anglers; most other operators find access too difficult and time-consuming; if they come, they arrive late and have to leave early to make it back to their base. So this means our own anglers have the best fishing hoursdawn and duskcompletely to themselves!
Brown trout and rainbows are the main catch, with average sizes ranging from 16 to 22 inches. Some landlocked salmon of similar size are also caught occasionally. Few of these fish have ever been caught before and are very wild, so they put up a thrilling fight when hooked.
Depending on the venue and conditions, rods used are mainly in the 4-wt to 7-wt range. Streamers, nymphs, dry and wet flies are all on the menu. Woolly Buggers (blacks, browns and dark olives), Fat Alberts and all types of beetles will usually ensure success, and Caddis flies and Adams work wonders on hot afternoons.
